LAHORE: Dozens of home workers gathered in front of Lahore Press Club for the third time in two weeks to demand that the government adopt a draft policy that is the rights associated with them.
They said that they are not recognized as workers, but they have made a contribution to the economy. They also complained of poor working conditions, say that they have set hours, wages or working mechanism dealing with complaints.
"We have not received the legal minimum wage or regular work. We demand justice," said Fazeelat Bibi, one of the demonstrators Kasur. "We should be entitled to health insurance, social security and housing programs."
Nazali Javed said that the draft policy had been under construction for three years. "We will march in Lahore, Kasur, if the policy is not approved," he said. Representatives of several other organizations joined the protest. South Asia and Pakistan Association Deputy Director Irfan Mufti said that the labor policy, which was adopted in 2015, called for the protection of homeworkers. Legislative cover must be provided, Mufti said.
