KARACHI: homeworkers (HBWS) and workers took to the streets on Friday, demanding the employment and workplace safety.

The event took place at Regal Chowk, followed by a demonstration that culminated in Karachi Press Club. The event was organized to mark the World Day for Decent Work, celebrated worldwide on October 7, where IndustraiALL Global Union has asked all affiliates to mobilize members and to join the global fight to stop precarious work.

"Do not even know more than 90% of workers, their rights and the laws of this country," Information Minister said the National Federation of Associations Mushtaq Ali Shan, added that only 1.5% of workers belong to trade unions. "Workers should have the right [to appear in employment letters] have to secure their jobs."

The demonstrators demanded that the dangerous and unsafe conditions must be corrected to transfer laws on health and safety and labor inspection system should be implemented. "Be abolished Third Party contract system needs," Shan said, and added that all workers should have the appointment letter and the rights to collective bargaining.
