Homeworkers who seek job security

KARACHI: ". I dot clothes all day with other family members, who are at home I earn Rs4,000 per month at the time of Eid to Rs5,000, maybe we can do better and do in Rs7,000," Saira said Feroze , at home outside the Karachi Press Club here on Thursday in protest at the homeworkers day in South Asia.

"We have job security, medical money, money to send our children to school. We live in a rented and sometimes it becomes difficult to pay the rent," Shamim Bano said another domestic worker, who said he has a variety of things candle making seam roofing done.

The event was organized by the Home Based Women Workers Federation. The women gathered in protest are not recognized as part of the workforce, and therefore can not be given their rights.

In Pakistan, more than 12 million home workers, 80 percent are women, have no legal identity, because their status is not defined in the local labor laws. The government has not yet announced any formal policy of home to give legal cover and protection for them.

Other speakers said on the occasion that millions of workers waiting here for three years for the signature of the competent authority of the domestic policy.

They said that once signed and announced the policy, homeworkers should receive legal status and identity in accordance with the labor laws of this country, also allow them to enjoy the benefits and benefits under these laws. They demanded that the policy disclosed promptly so that they can be registered with the social security institutions.
